Rarities!
The following items all contain songs by ‘Luke Ski’ on them. Some items are more rare than others, but all of the tracks from them listed here can be heard by requesting them for Luke Ski’s show “Dementia Revolution”:
The Cheese Box
This home made cassette demo release was the first album I submitted to “the Dr. Demento Show” in 1995. He sent me a very supportive rejection letter, suggesting I get to a professional studio to record my music. “The Cheese Box” is the name of an actual business located in my hometown of Lake Geneva, WI. The cover photo on the album shows myself in front of a billboard for the store, located on the street behind the building it was located in. All of the songs were on side 1 of the cassette. The album’s track listing was as follows: Insane And The Brain, Viva Las Nagus, What’s Up Spock?, Fantastic Voyager, Star Wars Trilogy Homesick Blues, Y.O.D.A., Humpa Hound, Enter Der Feuhrer, Wahdedah-Dee, My Name Is Fred, Mystery Science Theatre Picture Show, Cheesy Movie - Curse My Soul, Ninja Butt from Ray TV, Barn Dance Fever by Frozen Scream, and a hidden track, Rasta Eye. There were 50 copies of the cassette made, and it is no longer available. Some of the tracks appear on the “Forgotten Fishheads” CDs listed later on this page.
This home made cassette demo release was the second album I submitted to “The Dr. Demento Show” in early 1996. It was recorded with the help of a friend of mine who had some sound equipment that could yield better results than mine. We re-recorded some of the “Cheese Box” tracks on this new equipment, hoping that they would now be high quality enough for airplay on “the Dr. Demento Show”. Again, he sent me a very supportive rejection letter, emphasizing that I needed to get to a professional studio to record my music. The cover art is a drawing meant to represent myself eating samples of Wisconsin Cheddar. The album contained “The Cheese Box” on side 1, and “the Better Cheddar Remixes” on side 2. The side 2 track listing is as follows: Insane And The Brain, What’s Up Spock?, Fantastic Voyager, Star Wars Trilogy Homesick Blues, Mystery Science Theatre Picture Show, My Name Is Fred, 88 Lines About 44 Simpsons, Gump (my version, also a parody of Lump, written and recorded before Weird Al’s version came out), Mr. Versatility, I Kissed A Squirrel, Mr. K., ’86 Cody Cabin Song, John Carridine from Ray TV, Lost in America by Frozen Scream. There were 22 copies of the album made, and it is no longer available. Some of the tracks appear on the “Forgotten Fishheads” CDs listed later on this page.
Taking the Doctor’s advice, I finally got into a professional studio in mid 1996 and recorded an album that was high quality enough to get some airplay on “the Dr. Demento Show”. The 2 songs he played were “What’s Up Spock?” (Oct. 20th, 1996) and “Funny Man” (which he made his own edit of). He then suggested that if I wanted to get repetitive airplay, I should get the album pressed onto CD eventually. The original version of the album, “Fanboys ‘n da Hood” was released on an orange colored plastic cassette, with the same cover art as seen on the CD version (me as a Jedi, and J Styles as a Klingon). The track listing was as follows: Side A: Funny Man, Insane And The Brain, My Name Is Fred, Cruis'n USA, Spam (Let The Pork Be Pork), KFC Bitch, Star Wars Trilogy Homesick Blues, Y.O.D.A.. Side B: Mystery Science Theatre Picture Show, Murder Was The Play, Wahdedah-dee, Ninja Butt - From RAY TV, I'm Not A Fishy - Frozen Scream, Born To Lose, What's Up Spock?, Fantastic Voyager, Gowron Said Knock You Out. I did re-record the vocals on some of these tracks when we went back to the studio to make the CD version of the album. There were 100 copies of the album made and shrink wrapped, and there are only a few copies left. If anyone is interested in obtaining one, they can contact me and beg me to sell them a copy.
"Fanboys 'n da Hood" & "Shadows of the Bunghole"
Dr. Demento's Basement Tapes: Volume 6
After the CD version of "Fanboys 'n da Hood" was released in the Spring of 1997, the song "Insane And The Brain" became a big hit on "the Dr. Demento Show". So much so that Dr. D asked me if he could include it on his upcoming fan-club compilation CD which contained most of the big hits from his show that year. I told him yes, and in January of 1998 the members of the Demento Society fan club got their yearly exclusive "Basement Tapes" CD available only to them, containing "Insane And The Brain" by yours truly, as well as 22 other songs by such demented luminaries as "Weird Al" Yankovic, Henry Phillips, Mark Jonathan Davis, The Four Postmen, Barnes & Barnes, Power Salad, Judy Tenuta, Tim Cavanaugh, Tom Smith, and Barry & the Bookbinders.
I was contacted by Devo Spice from the rap dementia group “Sudden Death” about making an appearance on his new CD “Unplugged”. He sent me the lyrics to a song called “Halitosis”, which was a parody of “California Love” by Dr. Dre and Tupac Shakur. I recorded my vocals at my home in Kansas City, and sent them to him out on the east cost, where he mixed them into the song. The album was released at ALCON ’98, and he allowed me to put the track “Halitosis” on the “Forgotten Fishheads” CDs. If you’d like to obtain a copy of “Unplugged”, you can find out how by visiting the Official Website of Sudden Death.
Fast-forward again another couple years to 2000… This limited edition set of CDs contain everything of somewhat importance in the "Luke Ski" recorded comedy catalog that did not make it onto my first 3 CDs, "Fanboys 'n da Hood", "Shadows of the Bunghole" and "Carpe Dementia." The first 3 tracks on each CD are the newly produced Bonus Tracks of the 2-album set. While I do realize that usually Bonus Tracks are placed at the ends of albums, I however decided to put them at the beginnings of the albums for easier accessibility. The remainder of the tracks on the CDs, ("Volume 13", tracks #4 through #25; and "Volume 27", tracks #4 through #24) are the "Rarities" of the 2-album set, and were arranged in more-or-less chronological order. The only way to obtain a copy of these CDs is to join The Official Luke Ski Fan Club. They currently are not available, but they will be again once the fan club is back on it’s feet.

There will be more volumes of “Forgotten Fishheads” in the future, but like I said, we need to get the fan club back on it’s feet before I start working on anything like that.
The Fandom Trilogy – cassingle
For the holiday season of 2000, I gave as a gift to the members of “the Official Luke Ski Fan Club” a professionally produced Cassingle containing “You Might Be A Trekkie”, “Fanboy” and “It’s A Fanboy Christmas”. What remained of the 250 copies were sold at this website and at live shows. The Cassingle is no longer available.
In 2001, I was very fortunate to have the chance to visit
San Francisco, where I was able to hang out with fellow dementia artist Tony
Goldmark. We made a plan to get
together to write and record a new song for our respective new albums.
I produced the background music with my brother J.T. and his musician
friends in Wisconsin, and brought it with me to San Francisco where we recorded
it in the studio his family uses for their record company “Don’t Quit Your
Day Job Records”. The writing was a collaborative effort, and the end of the
song was improvised. The track “The
Sign Of A True D-Fan” has 2 different versions.
On my CD “Uber Geek”, you hear the full uncut mix of the song, and on
Tony’s CD “Masterpiece Weirder” you hear a version that fades out during
the final chorus, and then fades back in for the improvised part on a track
appearing later on the CD called “The Sign Of A True D-Fan, Continued”.
Also on the CD, Tony asked me if I would be willing to sing back up on “The
Pirate Song”, which contains improvised Pirate banter during the bridge of
the song. If you’d
like to obtain a copy of “Masterpiece Weirder”, you can find out how by
visiting the Official
Website of Tony Goldmark.
Early in 2002, Devo Spice of “Sudden Death” made the journey from New Jersey to Madison to get together and record a few things for our respective new CDs to be released at ALCON III. He brought the music for “Frat Boys” a parody of the song “Fat Boys” by our heroes, “the Fat Boys”. I recorded my vocals, which we burned onto CD and gave to him so he could work it into his mix back home. We then recorded the song I had written for us, “Peter Parker”, a parody of Run DMC’s “Peter Piper” (which appears on “Fatal Accident Zone” as an audio file for your computer), and some dialogue for a sketch called “Luke Ski vs. Sudden Death”. If you’d like to obtain a copy of “Fatal Accident Zone”, you can find out how by visiting the Official Website of Sudden Death.
Laughter Is A
Powerful Weapon (Funny Musicians For A Serious Cause) – Various Artists
After months of planning and legal battles with the CD printers, this charity CD project led by Grant Baciocco and Chris Mezzolesta was finally released in July of 2002 as a benefit for the Twin Towers Orphan Fund. This compilation has 19 songs by some of the best and brightest of the funny music world. My contribution to this CD is “Ode To Mrs. Grass’ Chicken Noodle Soup”, which was recorded live on stage at “Dementia: 2001”. If you’d like to obtain a copy of “Laughter Is A Powerful Weapon (Funny Musicians For A Serious Cause)”, you can find out how by visiting the Official Website of Funny Musicians For A Serious Cause.
Dr. Demento's Basement Tapes: Volume 11
Release Date: A.S.A.P., 2003. Just like I had done 5 years earlier, I produced a hit big enough to be considered worthy of a "Basement Tapes" CD. My #1 hit of 2002, "Peter Parker" is on the 2003 edition of the yearly exclusive Demento Society fan-club compilation, which also contains songs by such awesomely funny buddies of mine as Tony Goldmark, Sudden Death with Hot Waffles and Lester McFwap, Throwing Toasters, Da Vinci's Notebook, and many more.
Release Date: February 11th, 2003. This CD is the first nationally released album to contain a song by ‘the great Luke Ski’. This compilation put out by Dr. Demento himself is a ‘best of science fiction comedy music’ compilation, and contains “What’s Up Spock? – Deep Space ’99 Remix” as it originally appeared on “Carpe Dementia”. If you’d like to obtain a copy of “Dr. Demento’s Hits From Outer Space”, you can either go to your local record store and pick one up (ask for the comedy CD section and look up “Dr. Demento”) or you can order one online from the record company who released it, Laugh.Com Records.
The Best Of Art Paul Schlosser
Release date: Summer 2003. My voice does not appear anywhere on this CD, but I was the person who compiled it. After meeting Art Paul Schlosser on the streets of Madison, WI, I picked up his first 7 CD releases. Soon after that, I put together my own customized CD containing what in my opinion were his funniest songs & jokes from those CDs. I gave Art a copy of the home-burned CD, and suggested that he get copies of it to dementia DJs (I even sent of a few CDR copies to some close friend DJs myself). He later decided to pay to have the CD professionally printed up and released, giving me credit as the compiler on the back of the CD case. If you'd like to buy a copy of the album, you can do so here: ART PAUL at CDbaby.com. If you're a dementia DJ and you'd like to get a free promotional CDR of this album, just e-mail me and I'll tell you how to obtain one for your show.
