I Kissed A Squirrel
Note: I created this page due to a surge in underground popularity with my bizarre inside joke song “I Kissed A Squirrel”, as a public service so other people might have a clue as to what is is really all about.

I never thought that this
song would get so infamous that it would constitute it's own web page. But
I guess that's the power that Birdseed Bobby and Dusty hold over all of us.
So, at last, here's everything you need to know about Bobby, Dusty, and "I
Kissed A Squirrel".
Okay, first thing's first.
If you haven't heard the song yet, you need to download it and listen to it,
because if you don't this page will be just a collection of incomprehensible
gibberish.

Now until recently, here
was the only information regarding what that song was all about. From the CD
"Shadows Of The Bunghole" by "Luke Ski's Psycho Potpourri"
(the great Luke Ski) Track 8 - I Kissed A Squirrel - 3:12. A parody of
"I Kissed A Girl" by Jill Sobule about the characters 'Birdseed Bobby
and Dusty' from "Ray TV". First and foremost: You have to have
seen our R-rated sketch video series "Ray TV" for this to make any
sense... That being said, this is by far the most infamous song on this CD. An
inside joke song written solely to entertain Luke and his closest friends, now
has the makings of becoming a cult legend. Some people love it, some people hate
it, but either way, it really seems to make an impact on the average dementia
listener. I'm not going to explain any further beyond that. If you really want
to find out what it's all about, then order the "Ray TV" videos on the
catalog page of this website.
Well recent events that I
will now unfold for you has made me realize it's time to give Bobby, Dusty, and
the song their own space on my website to help answer any questions the general
public has about them all. So here we go.
I recently got an e-mail
from a guy called "Gary Assassin", who is a big fan and friend of Jill
Sobule, the singer who did the mid-90's hit song, "I Kissed A Girl",
which was the basis for my parody song, "I Kissed A Squirrel", which
has gained a cult status amongst dementia fans. He informed me that the
song now an MP3 collector's item amongst Jill Sobule fans on-line, and that he
and Jill herself downloaded the song, and they loved it! He asked me for
an explanation behind the whole "Birdseed Bobby" thing, so I sent him
a couple of paragraphs on that. (which were as follows)
Unlike the majority of the parodies I've done, which are based on pop-culture things that most people know all about, "I Kissed A Squirrel" is based on a humongous inside joke that only a dozen or so people can fully understand. My friends and I like to make improvised comedy videos under the title of "Ray TV". Think of it as a low-budget R-rated version of SCTV, improvised by a band of teenagers and twenty-somethings. Anyway, my younger brother Michael, and his best friend and sidekick Brody, invented a couple of characters named Birdseed Bobby & Dusty (Brody and Michael, respectively). They are a couple of demented 8 year olds who have their own call-in talk show called "Birdseed Bobby and Friend". On their show, they discuss the bizarre things that fascinate them, like rice (their favorite food), puppets (common co-stars on "Ray TV"), and of course, squirrels. In particular, one squirrel who dresses up like a Viking, henceforth known as 'the Viking Squirrel'. The Viking Squirrel, being an odd character himself, is fixated on people's butts, or as he refers to it, 'the anal', often attacking people by attaching himself to people's posteriors. It was later revealed toward the end of the "Ray TV" series that Birdseed Bobby & Dusty are actually from a parallel universe, and intend to use a combination of voodoo magic and cable access TV to conquer our universe. In the end, it was the Viking Squirrel who was their downfall.

Anyway, in the mid-90's, I
discovered that "the Dr. Demento Show" was on in my area, and I began
putting together my first 2 CD collection of parodies and other comedy bits for
play on his show. I liked "I Kissed A Girl" since I first heard
it, and I included it on a couple of my personal mix tapes of that time.
Eventually, I made the mental connection between "I Kissed A Girl" and
"Ray TV's" Birdseed Bobby & Dusty. As soon as I came up with
the concept of "I Kissed A Squirrel", I felt it was too hilarious for
me to pass up, even though only the Ray TV cast and it's even smaller number of
viewers would ever understand it. So, it became track #8 on my 2nd CD,
"Shadows of the Bunghole". I had Brody and Michael sing the lead
vocals as their characters, my partner J Styles playing his role as the Viking
Squirrel, and myself and other Ray TV cast members provided the background
squirrel vocals. The song never got any national airplay for obvious
reasons, but I've noticed that it has become an underground cult hit amongst
college & Internet DJs who specialize in demented music, which is why I
decided to make it one of the free MP3 samples available at my website, Luke
Ski's GNOME page.
(Continuing from earlier.)
I also told him I'd send him and Jill copies of it on CD. A few days
later, on my way to Summerfest with Steph to see Styx, she noticed on the
schedule that Jill was going to be at Summerfest that afternoon, performing
right when we would be arriving! So we rushed in there, and caught the
last few songs of her show, in the rain (big surprise for Summerfest, eh?).
After her set was over she came out and signed autographs for everybody, and I
got a chance to introduce myself and talk to her for a few minutes. She
was very cool, and was nice enough to autograph my copy of her new CD,
"Pink Pearl". I asked her to write a comment on my parody that I
could quote her on, which graces the top of this web page. Jill Sobule is
officially the first artist whose song I parodied that I've managed to come in
contact with. Fortunately for me, she likes the song, and she has a great
sense of humor. "Pink Pearl" is a great CD, my favorite songs on
it being "Mexican Wrestler" and "Mary Kay". I've been
trying to find her other CDs at stores when I've had the chance. I'll give
her a more proper plug once I've gotten the full Jill Sobule collection.
So in conclusion to the story, special thanks to Gary Assassin for tipping me
off on the whole thing, and to Jill for being so cool!

In the interest of
clearing the air on the whole Birdseed Bobby and Dusty thing, I've decided to
explain certain words or phrases in the song, to better help those not on the
inside understand it, if that's possible.
Schwabby
- A girl that Mike/Dusty was interested in.
A hammer and a monkey - In reference to a 'movie preview' commercial for
a film called "The Hammer And The Monkey".
Rice - The favorite food of Bobby & Dusty.
Scroto - A big shaggy creature rumored to be the love child of Barney and
Baby Bop.
Libertarian Velociraptor - A political party for dinosaurs in the Ray TV
universe.
Tasty entrées - For some reason, Bobby & Dusty have no problem
eating squirrels for food.
Can of water, potatoes, jello - More food & drink preferred by Bobby
& Dusty.
Puppet Show - A segment of their show in which they do a puppet show.
Puppets are also their subordinates in their plans for interdimensional
domination.
Coughing up chew toys - Dusty has a thing for eating chew toys.
Hojo Hockeystick - A really freaky guy who carries around a hockey stick
and double-A batteries.
Movie Review - Another segment of their show where they review movies.
Dusty's Mom - She provides them with their wardrobe & scenery, which
"cost over $2.42, but it was worth it."
"Hunga hunga hai hai" (etc.) - This chant is said during the
Birdseed rain dance ritual, to make it rain birdseed.
"I don't have any nuts, I'm a puppet!" - Dusty said this once
during a Puppet Show segment.
"I came here to shoot crap." - Another Ray TV catch phrase said
by one of Michael's characters, Sir Gucci Pooch.
CyberFote magic - Well, this one takes a bit to explain. "Fote"
was an enemy of Bobby & Dusty, a warlock-in-training with very lame powers
(he could make chairs disappear and reappear), hence the term "Fote
magic". Bobby & Dusty kidnapped his love, Ensile, and blackmailed
Fote to do their bidding. Fote was attacked and nearly destroyed.
Bobby used a combination of cheap, crappy technology and voodoo sphincter magic
to bring him back to life, half boy, half machine, as "CyberFote".
Hence the term "CyberFote magic". At the end of "Ray TV the
13th: Bobby's Revenge", CyberFote was defeated by the Viking Squirrel, who
attacked him at his weak point, his 'anal'.
Transform into a giant mutant monster - In "Ray TV Movie", it
is discovered in a top secret video from the alternate universe that Bobby is
able to turn into a giant green monster to terrorize wand destroy cities.
WCW - One of Dusty's favorite shows.
Hens love roosters (etc.) - That 4 line ditty is the opening theme song
of "Birdseed Bobby & Friend" (a parody of the "Ned
Flanders" theme song from the "Simpsons").
Something people don't seem to have noticed oddly enough, is that the track immediately following "I Kissed A Squirrel" on the CD is another track by Bobby & Dusty, taken directly off of the Ray TV videos. It's titled "That Phat Track", in which the boys sing "Kum By Ya", followed by Bobby saying that it's goin' out to all his 'homies' from the east side of Compton. Inexplicably, this track goes almost completely unnoticed by the fans of "I Kissed A Squirrel". Michael and Brody also tag team on some hip-hop lyrics as themselves on the track "GNOME Productions", which was recorded exclusively for the "Forgotten Fishheads" 2 CD set, which you can only get as a member of the Official Luke Ski Fan Club. The same 2 CD set also contains an earlier demo version of "I Kissed A Squirrel" done before Michael & Brody hit puberty, so it sounds even more dementedly twisted.

Allow me to conclude this page by letting you all know that Birdseed
Bobby & Dusty will be appearing on the upcoming "Ray TV" CD, which
will hopefully be available by Halloween, 2000. They will definitely be
doing their usual show, "Birdseed Bobby and Friend", but I cannot tell
at this time if they will be attempting to invade the rest of the CD as well.
I hope this page has helped you in some way, although in reality, it has
probably just confused you more. In either case, it was my pleasure to be of
service to you all. Thank you, and STAY AWAY FROM MY RICE!!!
