The Official Luke Ski Fan Club: New Version, October 2004

After months and years of planning, I'm finally ready to spring the new version of the Official Luke Ski Fan Club on the public. Many of you have been waiting for a long time for this, and I thank you and appreciate you for your patience. I think you will agree it was worth the wait. The reason the first version of the fan club went away was because my life simply wasn't conducive to keeping it going. I never had the time anymore to write and produce the fanzine, and I didn't own the necessary equipment to make the fan club CDs myself at the time. Now that things have changed somewhat in my life, I have decided to make the time and enlist some help to make this new version of the Official Luke Ski Fan Club a reality. So the first issue I need to address is: "What's the point?" Meaning, what is the point of joining the fan club? Being in the fan club is going to consist of three main things. And those things are:

            1. The New Luke Ski Fanzine. This fanzine is going to be a fan-run fanzine, rather than the fanzine I used to make "GNOME Improvement", which consisted pretty much of just me reporting on all the conventions I went to. I will be submitting things to it for inclusion, but I won't be the person putting it together. Super-fan Carrie Dahlby of Chicago, IL has volunteered to be the person in charge of creating the fanzine, which will be 12 pages per issue, and be sent off quarterly. The subscription rate will be $5.00 per year, which also pays for your membership into the Official Luke Ski Fan Club. Carrie and I want the fan club members to regularly contribute to the fanzine whatever they feel like contributing, like concert reviews, CD or song reviews, fan art, or whatever, as long as it in some way relates to Luke-Ski-fandom. There will also be fan bios in each of the issues, which will put the spotlight on you.

            2. Fan Club Exclusive Luke Ski CDs. When I started the first version of this fan club in 2000, I created a two-CD set called "Forgotten Fishheads: Volumes 13 & 27" which were given to the fan club members. These CDs contained all my early audio creations, from 1986 to 2000, along with some new bonus tracks. Now that I own the computer hardware and software necessary to burn & print the materials up on my own, I am bringing them back, and releasing 6 additional fan club exclusive albums. While they are home-produced CD-R albums, I feel they are the most professional looking and sounding albums of this type I have ever seen, and are well worth the price I am asking for each of them. Each album comes in a black plastic slim-line CD case, and liner notes which are printed up on 8 ½ by 11-inch binder paper, so you can start your own Luke Ski Fan Club binder (there will be more stuff like that offered in the future, lyric sheets, etc.).
These CDs can only be ordered on-line through the fan club. Fans must join the fan club by paying the membership fee (which subscribes you to the fanzine) to be allowed to order the CDs. To save you the extra transaction, I will allow people to pay for the initial subscription and purchase the CDs at the same time via PayPal. The CDs are as follows, listed in the order I'd recommend you get them (assuming you don't plan to buy them all at the same time):

Psycho Potpourri
Price - $15.00

The songs on this CD were originally released on the albums "Fanboys 'n da Hood" (1996) & "Shadows of the Bunghole" (1997), which have been out of print for a while now. My original intention was to release this as a professionally printed album, just like "Carpe Dementia", "Uber Geek", and "Worst Album Ever". However, my finances don't allow for that at the moment, so I am making it available now on this CD-R version which I will be selling both at my live shows and on-line to fan club members. If and when this album does get professionally printed and released, I will be willing to exchange a CD-R version for a pro version if you like, either in person or via the snail mail by sending me the CD-R and a self-addressed stamped envelope. Of course, hard-core fans may want to keep the CD-R version as a rarity, but that's entirely up to them.

So, you're wondering how you can get your hands on "Volume ZERO"? Well first of all, you need to be a paid / subscribed member of the Luke Ski fan club. Secondly, you need to already own all of the other fan club CDs that you personally need to complete your Luke Ski collection first. Now on this requirement, I am willing to make some exceptions because some of you already own the original release of "Forgotten Fishheads: Volumes 13 & 27" from the 2000 fan club, some of you already own either "Fanboys 'n da Hood" & "Shadows of the Bunghole" or the "Psycho Potpourri" compilation, and some of you already own "Are We Stalling For Time" from having bought it at a GenCon show. I am willing to allow for this, so you don't have to pay for CDs of music that you already own. So, the easiest way to earn a free copy of this CD is to complete your Luke Ski collection by ordering all the fan club CDs you need all at once. If you do that, I will include the "Volume ZERO" CD as a free prize in your order. Consider it to be the 'Complete-ist Fanboy Happy Meal' or something.
Now, some of you might be a bit tight on money, and not be able to afford to buy all the other CDs at once. That's fine, you can order them one at a time or however suits you best until you have a complete collection sans "Volume ZERO". Once you've hit that point, you can win the CD by doing a little Luke Ski fandom homework assignment. The current assignment is to type up the lyrics to a Luke Ski song and e-mail them to me. Now it can't be just any song, you need to e-mail me at LukeSki@Juno.com about it, and I will e-mail you a list of songs to choose from. You tell me which one you're doing, and I'll make note of it so no one else will be able to type up the song you've chosen. If there are parts of the song you can't decipher, just take your best guess and I will make corrections before posting them at www.LukeSki.com on the lyrics page. There will be other ways to win the CD in the future, but we will leave it at this for now.

FYI: This is "Version-C" of this release, the final version.  For the hard-core fans that are curious as to what the differences are between the three versions; "Version-B" had pre-final-mixdown versions of "Vader Boy" and "Grease Wars".  "Version-A" had pre-final-mixdown versions of "Just Say No To Midichloriens", "Vader Boy" and "Grease Wars", and were missing the two "SKI! True Hollywood" tracks and "Star Wars Prequel Homesick Blues".  If you are a fan who got "Version-A", e-mail me at LukeSki@Juno.com, and I will e-mail you MP3s of the missing tracks from "Version-A".

Back to the general fan club information…

            3. Other Stuff! I'm going to do my best to come up with other cool things that you'll like to keep you the happiest and most satisfied fans in the history of dementia music. As I mentioned before, the fan club CD liner notes will be copied up on 8 ½ by 11-inch binder paper, so you can start your own Luke Ski Fan Club binder. As well as the liner notes, you could keep your issues of the fanzine in it, lyrics sheets, autographs, photos, whatever you want! You could even ask me to draw an illustration on the cover when you see me at live performances! For the immediate moment, since finishing up the first batch of fan club pre-orders from 2003 has kept me so busy, the only thing I can offer as an extra fan club exclusive incentive is a cyber-coupon for $5.00 off all Luke Ski Caricatures that cost more than $5.00 (see the On-Line Art Portfolio page for caricature info). I have a lot more ideas brewing in my head (including full color posters, five T-shirt designs, and a convention/party called 'LukeSkiCon'), so just hang tight and I'll keep you posted on whatever new fan club exclusive stuff I can come up with to please all of you.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, what else this fan club will become is dependent on what the fans want to do with it. I need your help to get this thing started and keep it alive. I hope you all are happy with what I'm offering, and I eagerly await the new membership / subscription & CD orders to come. Thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing from you all soon.
